col/ette the whale has a friend. Sam the seal from Sorrento colony who likes nothing better than to swim around to Stony Point is also facing euthanasia not because he is abandoned but because he is considered to be a nuisance and has bitten some hands that have fed him. First fleets arrived at Sorrento and as well as causing the local natives demise
also killed many of our native fur seals in Port Phillip Bay. Other colonists did the same.
Now we have a dredger to make shipping in and out easier, but could this cost more marine species to be lost. Was col/ettes mum hit by a Sydney Ferry making an irony of col/ettes
suckling up to moored boats. Was this whale familiar with the sight of boats and ships.
There are whales in captivity unfortunately, but this shows that it is possible that humans
have kept captive whales. Experts say whale calves do die but generally it is out to sea.
Was col/ette trying to get our attention by staying close. It would have been a big job to keep that calf alive but trying something is better than not trying at all. What this world needs right know is hope and although I am no expert this so called clinical and professional approach from our leaders is depressing. I have noticed also that apart from peoples individual cothat apart from peoples individual comment the media post euthanasia has made no futher broadcast, like it never even happened. lastly I was interested in seeing the singer from indigenous Australian band Coloured Stone, Bunna Lawrie, is also a whale whisperer. Power to the people.
